The 2021 Audi A4 35 TFSI MHEV is an interesting example of Audi blending traditional petrol performance with early electrification. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder produces 110kW and 270Nm, with power sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. What makes the MHEV system particularly clever is that it uses a 12-volt mild-hybrid setup with a belt-driven starter-generator that can recover energy during deceleration and help the car coast with the engine switched off. Another neat detail is how the A4's mild-hybrid technology works together with its S tronic transmission. When the driver lifts off the accelerator at suitable speeds, the car can disengage the engine and coast, then restart it rapidly when acceleration is requested. The 35 TFSI was also the entry point to Audi Australia's updated A4 range, yet it retained many of the technology features associated with more expensive luxury models, including Audi virtual cockpit, MMI Navigation, wireless phone charging and electrically adjustable leather-appointed front seats.
