The 2021 Audi e-tron 55 quattro is packed with technology that was quite unusual for its time. One of its most distinctive features was the optional Virtual Exterior Mirrors, which replaced conventional side mirrors with compact cameras feeding live images to OLED screens mounted inside the doors. Audi described the system as the first of its kind in a volume-production vehicle, while the cameras also helped reduce aerodynamic drag and wind noise. Beneath the futuristic exterior, the e-tron 55 uses two electric motors and Audi's electric quattro system, with torque distribution managed electronically rather than through a conventional mechanical centre differential.
Another interesting detail is that despite having no conventional multi-speed gearbox, the e-tron 55 uses a two-stage planetary gearbox with a single gear, delivering smooth, seamless acceleration. Its 95kWh lithium-ion battery can produce 300kW and 664Nm in boost mode, taking the large SUV from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
