The 2023 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Sahara marked one of the biggest changes in LandCruiser history, replacing the legendary V8 with a new 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel producing 227kW and 700Nm. While some purists questioned the move at launch, the new engine actually delivered more torque, better fuel efficiency, and significantly smoother performance than the outgoing 200 Series V8. Toyota also paired it with a sophisticated 10-speed automatic transmission, the first time such a gearbox had ever been fitted to an Australian-delivered LandCruiser.
Inside, the Sahara was designed to feel more like a luxury touring vehicle than a rugged bush truck, featuring premium leather-accented seating, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, and a massive 12.3-inch infotainment display. Interestingly, Toyota still included practical touches loved by long-distance Australian tourers, such as physical climate-control buttons, enormous cabin storage, and a reputation for reliability that created waiting lists stretching well over 12 months after launch.
