The 2024 BMW iX3 M Sport has an unusual combination of electric performance and traditional BMW driving character. Rather than using dual motors and all-wheel drive, the iX3 uses a single rear-mounted electric motor, sending 210kW and 400Nm exclusively to the rear wheels. That gives it a distinctly BMW-like driving feel, while the 80kWh battery provides a claimed 460km WLTP range. It can also DC fast-charge at up to 150kW, and BMW fitted a heat pump as standard to help improve efficiency in everyday driving.
One of the coolest hidden details is its startup sound created by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, a subtle reminder that BMW wanted the electric iX3 to have its own character rather than simply being silent. The iX3 is also based on the outgoing-generation X3 platform and was built in China, making it an interesting bridge between BMW's traditional combustion-powered SUVs and the next generation of purpose-built electric models.
